Electronic Serials Cataloging

This hands-on class covers cataloging electronic serials distributed through the Web.

Description:

Electronic Serials Cataloging is a hands-on training course for cataloging electronic serials distributed through the Web. This class is based on Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR), 2nd edition, including the 2001 amendments and the revised edition published in 2002. It incorporates key revisions of chapter 9, "Electronic Resources," and chapter 12, "Continuing resources," that apply to electronic serials, but it is not a comprehensive course on serials cataloging. The course is also based on the Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, the MARC 21 format, and CONSER-specific policies and practices set forth in the CONSER Cataloging Manual and CONSER Editing Guide. The curriculum includes these sessions: Introduction, Cataloging an Online Serial, Aggregations and Packages, Online Versions, and Changes That Affect Cataloging Case Studies.

Intended Audience:

People who have previous serials cataloging experience.

Notes:

This class is offered in conjunction with the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP). Under the auspices of the CONSER Program, the SCCTP provides authoritative training materials and trained serials experts to enable broad-ranging education in the field of serials cataloging.
